Establishment of the Ruthenian Voivodeship

On March 12, 1434, King Władysław Jagiełło established the Ruthenian Voivodeship as a new administrative unit of the Kingdom of Poland. The voivodeship was created on the territories of the former Principality of Galicia-Volhynia and encompassed five lands with its capital in Lviv.

June 20, 1863

West Virginia Becomes 35th U.S. State

West Virginia achieved statehood on June 20, 1863, becoming the only state formed by separating from another state during the Civil War. The region broke away from Confederate Virginia due to strong Union loyalty and distinct economic differences.
